Q: Do I have to have taken Plein Air Abstracts Part 1 to understand Part 2?
A: No it really doesn't matter if you haven't done Part 1. Not at all.
My painting approach is the same in both courses, and if you are even slightly experienced in painting, then you will understand my language.
This is not a technically advanced course.
Course 1 is mainly aimed at artists who are not confident painting outdoors.
And who feel very stiff and want to loosen up. Its a short course and a taster to my style of teaching and painting.
Lesson 1 of Part 2, is similar to Plein Air Abstracts Part 1. We Don’t use lots of colour and I show you how to use 2 mediums that are amazing for mark-making.
So my answer is no!

Q: I have painted outdoors before, but immunsure if this course will be too advanced for me?
I'm not a technical painter. I painting method isn't about laying down grounds and premixing tons of colours.
It’s more about being outdoors, using a few colours, (you can use only 4 colours ) and looking at the landscape in a new way. Being a bit looser with the colours. Splashing them and letting them run and adding pastels as well after.
So many artists who love the landscape don't want to paint realistic paintings as they look so static. So lifeless. But when they try and change their approach it all feel a bit messy and the results can be so frustrating.
I will show you exactly how I paint loosely capturing colours and line, then back in the studio you see how I review the studies and you’ll see how beautiful they are! That even though they were loose and very suggestive, I DID capture a more authentic sense of place!
This course isn't about being technically correct! Forget that. That's too much pressure. Its about going the other way. Almost becoming childlike again, but with a very clear idea of a limited palette so your colours don't muddy.
If you don't like it, there's a 14-day money-back guarantee. I don't want you buying the course then not liking it or feeling your getting anything out of it. That's not what I'm here to do. I want to inspire you.
Q: Is the course all set outdoors? And do I need access to wild landscapes?
A: The course has four on-location films and 20 short studio lessons. You can apply the lessons to urban or rural landscapes. But the main idea is to help you get outside!
Q: Is the course LIVE, and do I need to watch it at a particular time?
A: No, the course is pre-recorded! You can watch whenever you like, in your own time, and take your time watching and re-watching the lessons.
Q: Are there captions on the films?
A: YES! I have now added captions to all the films within the course.
Q: How long do I have to complete the course?
A: The course has LIFETIME ACCESS! So there’s no rush. You have loads of time to watch and process, and watch again the following year!
Q: What materials are covered in the course?
We work on paper with inks and pastels. I also combine some other drawing materials along with different tools. The materials are straightforward and inexpensive.
